It
is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our website.
Now that we are in our seventh year, we feel so blessed by
our community and how they have supported our efforts to
help the elderly, low income and disabled people in our
area.
In December of 1999, at a meeting in City Hall, I first
heard about Christmas in April. I was so moved by the video
and presentation that I knew I had to get involved in this
wonderful Christian based program.
Johnson County is blessed with many organizations that help
people in our area in so many different ways. One area I
found that we were lacking was an organization that helped
the low income, disabled and elderly to stay safe in their
homes. So many of these people were on a fixed income and
unable to afford to keep their home in good repair. It was
easy to see why many lost hope as their homes where falling
apart around them. With no one to help them, they felt
abandoned and alone.
Our hearts and minds went to work on how we could get such a
wonderful program going. We assembled a wonderful board of
caring people who had the same goals in mind and began to
put the love of Christ into action by putting hard work and
Christian values in the forefront of serving others in our
community.
As
we looked around our community, it did not take long to find
homes in need of repair. We began by raise funds for repairs
to the homes we selected for our work day each April. So
many wonderful people and businesses in our area have given
funds and supplies to help us to repair these homes.
Thanks to so many volunteers and skilled workers who gave of
their time and talents, we began to put on new roofs, redo
electrical wiring, repair bad plumbing and repaint inside
and out! Through our Safe at Home division of Christmas in
Action we are able to build wheelchair ramps, and install
safety grab bars, and other small repairs year round.
Since we have started we have redone over 30 homes and built
twenty wheel chair ramps, thanks to our wonderful Cleburne
fire department!
So welcome to our website. Feel free to visit and browse
around. Email us, ask questions, Sign up and be a part of a
wonderful community effort to help others in need.
Your friends
in Christ,
